He’s a Real Spitzer…

March 16, 2008

Roger Kimball points the reader to a proposal by Arnold Kling another word for the political glossary - not just for Campaign ‘08, but for all politicians. (from Kling’s post):

“The term ‘Spitzer’ belongs in the dictionary,” Mr. Kling observes, “and its definition should be ‘any politician.’ We ought to think of all politicians as Spitzers. No, they don’t all have lurid involvements with prostitutes. But they all have an inflated view of their superiority over the rest of us.”

Kling goes on to add a particularly sharp definition:

Suppose that we define “Spitzer” as someone who believes in the aggressive use of political power. A Spitzer believes it is his mission to tell us what to do for own good.

Kimball believes that nearly all politicians, and most petty bureaucrats fall into that definition of a ’spitzer.’

Kling comes up with a strong condemnation of future political appointees or politicians filled with hubris:

Yes, he’s a real Spitzer all right.

Kimball’s post is about so much more than the moral turpitude of Elliott Spitzer.

Quoth James Carville in 2002: “You in New York are so blessed to have an attorney general who just showed what it was like to be a Democrat.” I don’t often agree with James Carville, but this time he hit the nail on the head. I only wish that the disease were confined to Democrats. It isn’t.

Kimball’s post is well worth the read.

Don Surber adds a phrase to the political lexicon

Don Surber, who is always a good read, added this phrase to the political lexicon in a recent post:

The American press is playing Monica to Obamas Bill.

That HAS to go into the lexicon!

as Obama’s Obamamentum picks up speed.

(Hey! Did I just create a term there? Sigh. No, there are 7 hits on Google already.)

From Wizbang Blog:

Just as God issued his Ten Commandments, the new savior of our souls, the Obamamessiah, has issued his first commandment through his wife, Michelle.

but I like the sound of the new word Jules Crittenden creates in his post:

Scientific Enstupidment

Enstupidment deserves to be in the political lexicon, whether scientific or not.

It’s up there in my mind with “beclowning one’s self.” The image it conjures up in the mind is dramatic and vivid.

Oh, and the rest of the post is interesting for the discussion of how “scientists” deal with outlier observations.

ProPublica or anti-Republican

February 14, 2008

The Future of News posts about a new organization funded by

Billionaires Herbert and Marion Sandler, who are major Democrat political donors and critics of President Bush…

The post’s author, Steve Boriss, wonders about the impartiality of the people making up the organization.

But arent these exactly the same people who are responsible for newspapers declining fortunes in the first place? And, isnt this the same formula that is no longer working? Isnt this the same monolithic, center-left crowd that continues to deny that the mainstream media are biased, despite the claims of a landslide two-thirds of Americans? Cant we predict with absolute certainty that in the run-up to the election, ProPublica might as well be called AntiRepublican that its so-called nonpartisan investigations will remarkably avoid Democrats, while delivering precise, last minute hits on Republicans, as we have come to expect from mainstream media?

Will this be another Soros-like propaganda machine for the liberals?

And, isn’t it convenient that it’s in place in time for the general election.
