Mike Huckabee’s blog posts a long rambling “what we believe” entry as a start into explaining why he made, distributed, then pulled, then fully briefed, then let loose a copy of his negative ad against Romney.

And I believe that Americans aren’t interested in politics that divide us, they want their leaders to focus on what will lift them up and make things better.
I almost forgot that today in the face of the withering barrage of criticism we have endured over the last few weeks from my rivals. I say almost, because our negative ad won’t run.
This is almost as shameless as the “somebody’s got dirt on one of the Democrats, but won’t publish it,” innuendo that was flying around a couple of weeks ago.
My question to Huckabee would be, “why would you make the ad in the first place? If you were willing to approve it, commit it to video, distribute it to lots of stations in Iowa, and then fully brief your sanctimonious “reconsideration” and the ad contents to the press, then you want the message contents out without the soil of doing it on your hands.
That’s not any kind of moral courage in my mind.
