Geez, What Was In That Flood Water?

December 10, 2006

It must have been something in the flood waters of Katrina. The electorate in Louisiana just sent William Jefferson back to Congress. Maybe they feel safer with him out of state? Embattled congressman wins runoff for La. seat - The Boston Globe. His opponent, Karen Carter, conceded the run-off by saying,

“I guess the people are happy with the status quo,” she said
I guess so. And, I guess the Democrats can say they’re only doing the will of the people when they keep someone like Mr. Jefferson in their leadership.

When a Flattened Heirarchy Is Needed Most

In business, flattening the organization to remove intermediate layers of management is considered a very good way to improve the connection between the top leadership of the company and the layer that interacts with the customers.
You could use that analogy with the commentary presented in WorldwideStandard.com: “The Wisdom of Soldiers”,
Sometimes, it’s best to go right out to the front and ask the service providers what is most needed. You get an unvarnished view of the situation without the polish and finesse of the bureaucrat.
I posted earlier about T.F. Boggs’ blog comments about the Iraq Surrender Group report. The above-mentioned article adds these comments from a Marine Lt. Colonel:

These clowns, especially Hamilton, are clueless. Either we stay and fight, or we leave with everyone. We lose Marines everyday. It sucks. But we’re kicking the sh– out of the Muj when it comes to combat. They don’t have a chance if they stand and fight. IED’s are their only real hope. I see only a small slice of the war, but for my money, more troops is the answer.

He May Not Be Corrupt, But

he IS incompetent. Captain Ed, at Captain’s Quarters, blogs about the incoming Democrat chair of th HPSCI:

Now, according to CQ’s Jeff Stein, Reyes has little understanding of America’s explicit enemy in the war on terror:

… Reyes can’t answer some fundamental questions about the powerful forces arrayed against us in the Middle East.

It begs the question, of course: How can the Intelligence Committee do effective oversight of U.S. spy agencies when its leaders don’t know basics about the battlefield? …

Captain Ed’s recommendation to reinstall Jane Harman to the Chair of the HPSCI will not go anywhere. Nancy Pelosi has one thing more important to her than effective management of the Democrat majority - personal paybacks.
The silver lining on this is that she will give the Republicans plenty of ammunition for the 2008 campaign for control of the House.
