Maybe a Wave, but with Backwash

December 2, 2006

All the talk a week or two ago about the Democratic wave that swept out the Republicans and swept in the Democrats who’ve been pushing a different agenda for the past few years sounds hollow to me.
Reading a post at Captain’s Quarters on the possible non-appointment of yet another Pelosi protege for committee chair reminds me that Ms. Pelosi has already been denied her will in leadership matters twice: 1) Rep. Steny Hoyer beat her choice for Democrat Majority leader, Mad Jack Murtha; and 2) Alcee “Make that in small bills” Hastings failed to pass muster for the House Intelligence Committee chair. These were two high-visibility choices on Pelosi’s part. She’s either more Machiavellian than Karl Rove, or she’s not got a strong following among the House Democrats.
If this was a wave, there’s been a lot of backwash!
