Peggy Noonan Writes about the Emotional Left

October 14, 2006

While it isn’t the core of the article in OpinionJournal, Peggy Noonan notes in her discussion of examples of the Left’s unwillingness to discuss or debate differing views that,

It is not only about rage and resentment, and how some have come to see them as virtues, as an emblem of rightness. I feel so much, therefore my views are correct and must prevail.

This is the core of the liberals’ view on most things - I feel, therefore I’m right. You are obviously an unfeeling conservative - you don’t care about the outcast, the downtrodden, the poor and the unusual.

I’ve often wondered about how, at work where they want to include all the views (diversity), they don’t talk about the redneck’s view or the old white guy’s view.

Pakistan Remains a Key Focal Point in the War

Asia Times Online reports that the Pakistani government of Pervez Musharef has halted another coup attempt. In their article, Pakistan foils coup plot they noted that,

Other rockets were then recovered from various high security zones, including the headquarters of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) in Islamabad.

The ISI is more dangerous to Musharef than the CIa is to President Bush. At least for now, the CIA hasn’t taken to rigging rocket attacks on our president…for now

Another Post on the Emotionalism of the Left

Dr. Sanity posts in "RECENT HIGHLIGHTS OF THE MORAL AND INTELLECTUAL BANKRUPTCY OF TODAY’S LEFT," that,

"The left has degenerated into a movement that has not only abandoned reality, they have jettisoned reason and critical thinking. They prefer to hold onto the dogmatic axioms of their secular religion; shout the mantras and slogans of that religion; and refuse to acknowledge the catastrophic consequences of their behavior in the real world.

The mind of the left has turned to mush. All they have left are the inchoate–but quite passionate- emotions that help them to feel warm and glowing about their own superior intellectual and moral righteousness. A superiority, they have concluded, that entitles them to rule over all the rest of us lesser mortals."

This claimed moral superiority is defended by their emotional arguments. I’m not saying that emotional involvement in an issue is bad. The emotional impact is often what motivates many people to look into something that upsets or inspires them. One cannot do one’s best work if there is no strong emotional driver. The problem for the left is that they want none of the rational or logical - only the emotional.

Abdicating intellectual control over one’s behaviors doesn’t make a person’s actions more right.
