Where are the Courageous Leaders of the West
Maybe the predictions of Osama bin Laden that the West is the weak horse are true. It’s hard to find a courageous, outspoken leader either in the political or the cultural/intellectual realms of the West.
Wretchard at The Belmont Club writes in Meeting engagment,
The lack of strong and courageous leadership on both the Islamic and the Western sides of this confrontation threaten to let the infantile tantrums of the Islamofascists drag us into an all-out war between the cultures. Why are there so few in the West and apparently none in Islamic cultures who will resist this polarization of the issues? Do they all want war? Or, are all of the silent leaders just too weak to stand up and call a halt to the slide to war?As Lord Carey put it: "We are living in dangerous and potentially cataclysmic times". It is a time made perilous not only by the absence of moderate voices within Islam but by the even more conspicuous absence of any leadership among Western politicians.
