This is farce with a deadly edge

August 9, 2006

Gates of Vienna has a couple of posts up about the missing Egyptian ’students,’ who were destined for Montana State University.

Gates of Vienna: We Have the Names of those Egyptian “Students” but No Photos "This is farce with a deadly edge."

They end their second post by saying,

"Proof of guilt or innocence is irrelevant at this point. Security trumps alien “rights.” They can get their rights and liberties at home. Which is where they belong."

I second that sentiment.

Fauxtography and Intellectual Dishonesty

Michelle Malkin has several posts and links gathering the blogosphere’s exposure of staged and doctored photos coming from the Israel-Hezbollah conflict. Many bloggers have clearly shown that Reuters, the NY Times, US News, and other sources of news information have published doctored or staged photos to emphasize the pathos of war and the victimhood of Hezbollah, the Palestinian Hamas, and the Lebanese people.

Either these editors and publishers are delusionally naive about what they’re shown by others, uncritically accepting anything as true. Or they are, to quote Bill Keller Editor of the NY Times,

“I guess I would say if you’re under the impression that the press is neutral in this war on terror, or that we’re agnostic — and you could get that impression from some of the criticism — that couldn’t be more wrong."

Those words will come back to haunt Keller and others in the years to come.
