israelinsider: diplomacy: Hezbollywood Horror:

August 6, 2006

As with many of the atrocious stories coming out of the war against the Islamist fascists, Qana appears to be unraveling the more one looks at it. The Anchoress points readers toward the following post about one of the actors in the Qana spectacle:

israelinsider: diplomacy: Hezbollywood Horror: "Civil Defense Worker" doubles as Traveling Mortician

You will note, dear reader, that this information doesn’t appear to be making it to the NY Times, the LA Times, or the WA Post. I wonder why. It’s spectacular, it’s got features that would make it a real expose. What’s missing?

What’s missing is it doesn’t fit the preconceived views of the world that these editors and reporters have - US = bad, not US = good, or at least misunderstood.

I Have a Problem With the Basic Premise here

Ann Althouse, guest-blogging at Instapundit.com, points readers to an article in the Chicago Tribune by Ryan J. Foley: UW-Madison official warns Barrett to stop seeking publicity | Chicago Tribune

I have some trouble with the basic premise used by the University of Wisconsin’s provost in warning the idiot Mr. Barrett. He "defended the teacher’s right to free speech," in reference to the teacher’s publicly stated intention to teach his US government conspiracy theory about the attacks of 9-11 in a class. On the other hand,

"In summary, if you continue to identify yourself with UW-Madison in your personal political messages or illustrate an inability to control your interest in publicity for your ideas, I would lose confidence …'’

So, the provost ISN’T concerned about the presentation of crack-brained conspiracy theories about terrorism in a classroom, but he IS worried about bad PR for the University of Wisconsin. Are we to conclude then that the provost has no concern about the misrepresentation of facts in University of Wisconsin classrooms? Or is he only worried that this jackass will tarnish the school’s image if he speaks to groups larger than his classes, or to people who will broadcast or challenge his ridiculous allegations publicly. Obviously, the students, not wanting to get a bad grade, won’t do such a thing in the classroom won’t contradict or challenge the instructor. Some won’t even question his authority, they’ll just accept what he says as truth.

I think the provost has skewed priorities and is, effectively, an accomplice in the the distortion of facts surrounding 9-11.

WorldwideStandard.com: Lieberman Democrats

Daniel McKivergan has another good piece at The WorldwideStandard.com: Lieberman Democrats. He talks about the discomfort of the conservative Democrats with the campaign against Sen. Lieberman.

He also links to a William Kristol article on the same topic. What has me worried isn’t the Republicans peeling off the conservative side of the Democrats and having a stronger majority. what has me worried is the possibility that the Democrats become a fringe party with no real national base.

Why, you ask? Well, we function best with a two-party system. That requires…two active parties. Otherwise, the Republicans get too lazy and forget who put them in office. They have nothing to lose, so don’t have to serve their constituency.

A World Stood on It’s Head

In a scathing post at the Worldwide Standard.com, Daniel McKivergan compares the moral views of the opposing forces in the current Lebanon battles - Women and Children First. He describes and quotes others describing the differences between how Israel and Hizbullah (and all Islamist fascists) fight. This is the reverse of moral relativism. It is the application of universally accepted standards of healthy, mature, responsible behavior to both sides in the fighting. The Israeli’s come out clean and healthy. Hizbullah (and their coreligionists) show themselves to be the depraved human predators they are.

Again, though, this is where the liberals look at what is going on and condemn Israel and the US. They roar with mock rage about Qana, without looking to see what Hizbullah did to create that situation, or even if there was "staging" of the incident, which Hizbullah has done and continues to do.

This mock rage at the ‘victim’ of the abuse must come from a skewed sense of reverse logic (or perverse logic?): Bush and any of his friends, including Israel, are bad and always wrong, therefore any bad behavior or despicable acts must be his/their faults. Therefore, they are the ones who’ve caused this bad thing.

Two topics in one - from LGF and Dr. Sanity

Item One:

Reading Dr. Sanity this morning, I was pointed toward an article in Real Clear Politics by Kathleen parker. She wrote about the attempt to demonize evangelical Christians and invoke moral equivalency (the favorite tool of the liberal left wing) to show how scary they are. Ms. Parker adds (and Dr. Sanity concurs) that this is a parallel to Bush Derangement Syndrome - as Dr. Sanity diagnoses it.

I don’t recall any Christian fundamentalist group causing the kind of carnage and terror as the Islamist fascists have done. And don’t point me to Jim Jones or the Waco killings. The scale doesn’t equate, nor does the behavior.

Item Two:

Going back to the post at Dr. Sanity, I saw two pictures in the post. I can’t put them up here, so go to that first link above for Dr. Sanity.

What caught my eye was the second photo apparently showing a marriage of church and state under Bush as a threat. The man in the blue shirt is holding a sign - "Theocracy breeds facism." I assume he meant fascism, unless he’s talking about those goofy face masks the two wedding participants are holding. Theocracy may, in fact, breed fascism. If so, then Iran and many countries in the Middle East are more likely fascist, since they have overt, unrestricted theocratic regimes. The terrorists in al Qaeda, the Baathists, Hizbullah, and Hamas all state they want to establish a theocratic regime (the caliphate).

This causes me to think the leftists in this country really know who’s the bad person, what the bad philosophies are, and who is causing the trouble in the world today. They just remove it from their poster children in the Islamist regimes and transfer it to President Bush and the Republicans (see what I’ve learned reading Dr. Sanity!). Oppression of minorities, women, and the powerless; fascists regimes, etc. all take place - over there! Not here!
