First I get a blog, then I get a writer’s cramp - terror strikes, what will i say, how hokie will I sound? Then I remember, almost no one will ever read this. My random musings will be stored away in that great circular bitfile in the sky.
Several years ago I was involved with a large group of people doing strategic planning for the federal government. The group worked very closely together for nearly a year to develop a 15 year strategic forecast. We looked at many alternative features to the basic scenario and considered responses for each. This meant we had lots of meetings and brainstorming sessions! After the first month or so, several of us noted that we would frequently use a specific response. Examples: “Let’s put that on the parking lot,” or “What I envision here is … (complete with matching hand gestures).” My favorite when we got way off track on some topic was, “What the heck were we thinking?” For brevity’s sake, we began to number the responses (remember the joke about numbered jokes?). Mine was Response # 39.
